Overview

This position is to assist the Trade Compliance Manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of both import and export compliance programs and GTS.  This incumbent acts as a liaison between end-users, IT, and other cross functional teams and professionals in the analysis, design, configuration, testing and maintenance of systems to ensure optimal operational performance including but not limited to GTS.  He/she will support the GTC Manager in covering ANZ, ISC and SEA.

 

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Works with the local logistics teams (within areas of responsibility) to ensure timely customs clearance process by working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other service providers to resolve any Customs (and other related agencies) import/export queries or issues.
  • Support operational queries (e.g. HTS determination, origin confirmation, etc.) from local teams (logistics, regulatory, sales, etc.).
  • Maintains status and report of entries/tickets/permits and works with the broker, finance and external consultants (as appropriate) to ensure accurate reporting, final declaration and liquidation and closure of entries/tickets/permits. Maintains import and export-related documentation in accordance with governmental regulations.
  • Periodically reviews and audits documentation submitted to customs authorities for accuracy and comprehensiveness.
  • Determines the correct Harmonised Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification and works with the Global Classification Team to ensure alignment. Maintains records to support HTS determination and responsible for ensuring that HTS data (for country responsibility) in GTS is kept up to date.
  • Works with Finance, Manufacturing, Procurement, etc. to gather, analyse, report, and maintain for COO determination and application purposes.
  • Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) based on applicable governmental regulations as they pertain to the importation or exportation of commercial goods & information.
  • Provides training to the applicable departments/personnel on their responsibility for compliance with import/export regulations.
  • Keeps up to date on customs and other government agency regulations, as well as current logistic trends and alerts the team on issues that could impact the company's customs compliance status, etc.
  • Identifies opportunities to secure duty refunds and take advantage of duty saving programs.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for local customs agents/teams on customs-related matters.
  • Works on special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in International Business, Business Administration, Business Information, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in export and import trade compliance.
  • Excellent communication skill with external parties (lawyers, brokers, customs officers, other government representatives).
  • Subject matter expert in one or multiple areas of the law such as HTS, Origin, Free Trade Agreements, Customs Valuation, Reconciliation.
  • Working knowledge of Harmonised Tariff System (HTS), Customs Valuation, and other Government Agency Import/Export regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Rules of Origin, COO determination, FTAs.
  • Basic accounting and indirect tax understanding.
  • Quantitative skills with proficiency in data analysis and modeling (MS Excel) and presenting (MS PowerPoint).
  • Ability to create presentations and present to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • GTS/SAP Experience is an advantage.
  • Experience on India Customs matters is preferred.
