    We are looking for a R&D Director based in Cressier/Switzerland.

     

    The R&D Director is Member of the Division Management Committee, defining the future strategy of the Divisional product range and the Divisional project portfolio as part of the Management team and reports to the VP, General Manager, Division II.

    Responsibilities

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Develop the technological and scientific competitiveness of the Division required to implement the Divisional strategy.
    • Lead, prioritize, coordinate and drive all activities of the Division R&D team, including internal resources as well as external collaborations.
    • Propose to the Division Management team new technologies, and R&D solutions as part of the product strategy
    • Organize his/her department according to project portfolio. Coordinate, consolidate and validate the development strategies suggested by the R & D managers in the different fields.
    • Maintain and develop the technological and scientific competitiveness of the Division.
    • Develop the intellectual property of the Division product range. Work with Corporate Patent department and Division management to identify, value, file, and maintain patents.
    • Conceive new products design which fit both the marketing specifications and the manufacturing constraints.
    • Represent the department by attending congresses and international seminars in the Divisional field.
    • Validate and consolidate projects, the main lines of development and the budgets proposed by the R&D managers
    • Coordinate various projects within systems to ensure that ultimately systems function correctly.
    • Coordinate the transfer towards production with the manufacturing management. Provide support in case of quality or manufacturing issues for existing products.
    • Financial review (budget, actual) of department and by project in cooperation with Finance.
    • Develop R&D employees in line with corporate strategy. Set objectives and assess performance against them.
    • Communicate the management and division’s goals and strategy
    • Lead, motivate and inspire the R&D teams
    • Inform the Division Manager and Division Management team about important business and technological issues

    Qualifications

    What you need for this role:

    • Education:
      Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Sciences/Medical Technology (advanced degree preferred)
    • Lean / Six Sigma or other continuous quality improvement certification preferred
    • Experience:
      Minimum 10 years’ experience in the diagnostic industry including a proven track record in the development of diagnostic technologies, reagents and systems as well as expertise in immuno-hematology
    • Experience in managing R&D teams of minimum 30 people
    • Internal Auditing experience
    • Capacity of vision, strategic thinking, analysis and synthesis
    • Decision-maker, able to work under stress, rigorous, objective
    • Ability to manage, lead and inspire scientific teams
    • Ability to plan and delegate resources and projects
    • Solving and arbitrating disputes within the team
    • Strong people management skills
    • Strong professional language skills in English; at least one additional language French and/or German
    • Good presentation and negotiation skills, and skills of a team player
