  • Overview

    The Chemist I will support Global Supply Chain in the formulation of buffers and reagents. Must have the ability to lift and carry 12 kg upstairs for addition into bulk formulation tanks. Formulation will include the use of strong acids/bases and biohazardous materials.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform, review, and validate calculations of constituents prior to addition.
    • Conducts various in-process testing on raw materials and bulk products.
    • Evaluates testing for acceptability.
    • Prepares written reports and data summaries to monitor and communicate product trends to other departments.
    • This involves data entry and recording.
    • Monitors manufacturing process, performing adjustments when required, and verifies using specified measurement and validation procedures.
    • Maintains good laboratory procedures and practices, follows controlled SOPs/documents.
    • Performs SAP transactions against process orders for Goods Issue and Goods Receipt.
    • Ensures all required pre-production duties are performed prior to start of process.
    • Maintains, calibrates, and validates equipment according to schedule.
    • Involved in the scale-up, purification, process optimization, technology transfer and process validation activities.
    • May provide work leadership and participate in the training and development of lower level personnel.
    • Generates new procedures and improvements under the review of the Production Supervisor.
    • Participates and delivers documentation to post-production meeting.
    • Proposes and/or completes corrective actions to improve product or processes.
    • Analyzes, compiles, inputs, reviews, and presents technical data as required.
    • Designs and performs special testing or experiments to address specific quality issues, investigation of noncompliance, or customer concerns.
    • Participates in Material Review Board meetings as required.
    • Ability to perform the majority of supervisor responsibilities in their absence.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a life science or related field.
    • 0-2 years in a general laboratory environment performing analyses in the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, or associated areas of life sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Advanced degree preferred.
    • Experience using good manufacturing practices (cGMP) in a federally-regulated environment.
