  • Overview

At the Digital Biology Group (a division of Bio-Rad) we use microfluidic chips to generated nanoliter-sized droplets as reaction vessels to power a extremely precise digital nucleic acid measurement method (droplet digital PCR). Now that we’ve solidified our market lead in digital PCR, we’re expanding into new applications for our core technology.  We believe our partition technology creating hundreds of thousands of droplets will open up new avenues in basic life sciences research and will become a new paradigm in life science research and clinical diagnostics markets.

At the heart of our digital technology is the ability to control and modulate biochemical reactions within a stabilized aqueous droplet in fluorocarbon-based oil. The biochemical reactions range from highly multiplexed nucleic acid amplification reactions to multistep next generation DNA sequencing sample preparation. To achieve these ends, we have a highly engaged and talented product development team

If you’re a product development staff scientist who truly enjoys balancing bench work and managing a small group of highly motivated and talented scientists; thrives on pushing back the boundaries of the unknown; relishes the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment; and, thrilled by personally taking your ideas from white board to full product release, please read on!

    Responsibilities

    • In close collaboration with Marketing, invent and establish concept feasibility of new products.
    • Develop the physical product specifications and configurations that deliver the optimum product performance.
    • Lead a team that integrates these products with the associated emulsion chemistry and micro-fluidics platforms.
    • Be a Thought Leader for in digital biology emulsion chemistry, their applications, and gain a presence in the field through inventions, product commercialization, presentations and publications.

    Qualifications

    • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry with 10+ years of industrial experience highlighted with successful NPIs and 5+ years of direct management experience.
    • Proven capacity to thrive in a multi-disciplinary setting while leading and working alongside engineers, biologists, software developers and manufacturing professionals.
    • Track record of self-motivated design, execution and analysis of experiments on aggressive schedules in a rapidly changing environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, logical and analytical thinking, ability to multitask, work independently and on a team, and the ability to learn, troubleshoot, and problem solve.
