    Bio-Rad’s Digital Biology Group is a multidisciplinary team developing products using our Droplet DigitalTM technology that are having a large impact in both research and healthcare. Every day, scientists and clinicians around the world use our ddPCRTM and ddSEQTM NGS sample prep systems to make new discoveries, and are revolutionizing clinical decisions with break-through liquid biopsy applications. We’re looking for an energetic and talented Mechanical Engineer IV to join our team.

     

    You will be part of the Mechanical Engineering team developing complex mechanical solutions for the Next Generation ddPCR instrument systems. You’ll report directly to the head of mechanical engineering. Come join us and be a key player in our next breakthrough product.     Responsibilities

    • In depth knowledge of and application of mechanical principles and theories and their application to developing cost-effective, reliable and high quality instrument systems.
    • Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria.
    • Effectively, trains, influences and mentors staff, providing work leadership as assigned.
    • Supports project/program activities by performing work with an engineering specialty which involves various types of research, investigations, analysis and interpretation of data.
    • Ensures satisfactory quality of work and provides feedback to managers on process improvement.
    • Effectively collaborate with manufacturing during the transfer of new products as well as post launch during sustaining development activities.
    • Drives design for manufacturability and test strategies.
    • Work closely within multidisciplinary teams, where you will interface with other instrument functional teams, project management, biology, software, bioinformatics, marketing, quality/regulatory and others.
    • Reviews and analyzes product requirements, and articulates and documents mechanical system requirements and functions.
    • Participate in efforts relating to mechanical requirements definition, and functional decomposition, mechanical system architecture definition, modeling, and compliance including verification plans and reports.
    • Identifies and recommends long term tools, standards and methods to drive continual mechanical engineering improvement.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Qualifications

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering. MS desirable.
    • Training in Design for Excellence principals preferred.
    • DFSS Green Belt certification is desirable.
    • 8+ years’ experience in the engineering/development of complex systems, preferably medical devices.
    • Proficiency with CAD, CAE/Mechanical Analysis packages (ie. Solidworks, ANSYS/COMSOL) and business productivity tools (PLM, PDM, ERP).
    • Knowledge of GD&T standards.
