  • Overview

    Supervises front-line employees in a chemical/reagent manufacturing or instrument assembly environment. This position plans and assigns work to direct labor personnel, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions within established delivery, quality, compliance, safety, budget, and cost standards.   

    Responsibilities

    • Provide specialized training.
    • Identifies root cause of problems, determines and implements corrective action.
    • Identifies and implements cost and quality improvement and workflow optimization.
    • Creates budgets incorporating the planned purchase of capital equipment.
    • Participates in annual standard cost review.
    • Plans and implements Lean manufacturing and related concepts.
    • Identifies, documents, and obtains approval for process changes and improvements.
    • Called upon to lead special project teams.
    • Schedule work orders, assign tasks, review and close batch records.
    • Perform manufacturing activities such as blending, conjugation, biotinylation, and lyophilization to meet scheduled time-lines for Off-the-Shelf and Custom Orders.
    • Revise procedures, work instructions and material specifications as needed, including Update BOM, recipes and routing for Production.
    • Oversee Production floor to resolve issues and conflicts.
    • Lead daily cross functional meetings to discuss Production issues and prevent back orders.
    • Lead and work on Setup Correction Project for process improvement.
    • Support & participate in process improvement and/or continuous improvement activities that directly impact quality, cost, delivery or safety.
    • Provide back order status to the planners and manager.
    • Perform weekly cycle counting and investigate discrepancies.
    • Provide training and good manufacturing practices to new Chemists.
    • Work with finance team to analyze production variances on process orders to identify issues and come up with solutions.
    • Ensures employees are appropriately trained in recognizing hazards associated and specific to their job. Discusses safety in team meetings, completes safety inspections on a routine basis, and ensures compliance with all Health and Safety.
    • Participate in a monthly 925 Quality Meeting and prepare a presentation for Bio-Plex Production.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an engineering, chemistry and/or biology or related field.
    • 3+ years manufacturing production experience, preferably in a regulated environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 0-2 years of supervisory experience.
    • Based on function, a solid knowledge of certain compliance issues, e.g., FDA, GMP, ISO, etc.
    • In depth knowledge of assigned product group(s).
    • Advanced knowledge of production techniques, processes and concepts.
    • Knowledge of applicable equipment, systems, and compliance (e.g., FDA, GMP, etc.).
    • Ability to manage multiple projects.
    • Relevant certifications or training a plus.
    • Experienced with the introduction of new products, process scale up and the transfer of products to other manufacturing locations.
    • Thorough understanding of quality systems as they relate to production operations.
    • In-depth knowledge of immunoassays and preferentially multiplexed immunoassays.
