    Bio-Rad is looking for a Chemist III for the Reagents Manufacturing Process Development team.  The Chemist will execute cross-functional projects related to development and continuous improvement for our product lines. These include qPCR and droplet digital PCR reagents, the Bio-Plex suspension array system, pre-cast electrophoresis gels, and general molecular biology reagents.

     

    The successful candidate will utilize his/her expertise in biochemical/biological methods to prepare new products for transfer into manufacturing, to troubleshoot existing manufacturing and QC processes, and to introduce improvements in material sourcing, manufacturing processes and assay performance. Working closely with R&D and manufacturing operations, this individual will develop robust and reproducible production and quality control methods. This scientist will conduct optimization and validation experiments.

    Responsibilities

    • Represent Manufacturing Operations on new product development and manufacturing transfer teams. Collaborate with R&D and operations functions to ensure on-time, robust, and cost-effective transfer of new products into manufacturing.
    • Contribute to studies and/or activities necessary for process optimization and continuous improvement to assure robust and cost-effective manufacturing processes and QC assays.
    • Execute, analyze and interpret experiments.
    • Work with external suppliers to resolve raw material quality issues.
    • Provide troubleshooting support for both manufacturing and QC. Participate in root-cause analysis and FMEA, interface and collaborate with various development functions to solve a wide range of difficult scientific and operational problems.
    • Author, update or review validation test plans & data summary, production and QC procedures. Setup change control/infrastructure. 
    • Train manufacturing personnel in new processes.
    • Requires strong problem solving skills, technical proficiency, collaboration with key stake holders and ability to work independently.
    • Participate in the verification and validation of new process improvements.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry or Molecular biology or equivalent in a life science or related field.
    • 5+ years in a general laboratory environment in the areas of molecular biology, biochemistry, or associated areas of life sciences.
    • Experience in molecular biology/biochemical reagent process development; validation and scale-up.
    • Experience with PCR & Enzyme assay optimization.
    • Working knowledge of and application of good manufacturing theories and practices.
    • Able to apply scientific training to solve manufacturing and operational issues.
    • Ability to work effectively and build relationships through inter-organization collaborations.
    • Experience in Lean Six Sigma, DOE and statistical analysis is a plus.
    • Experience with ERP system – SAP is a plus.
    • Experience with Protein Purification and Fermentation is a plus.
    • Great organization and communication skills, adept at multi-tasking.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing of scientific and technical report and presentations.
