    This is a Biology R&D position to demonstrate feasibility of new applications, including liquid and solid tumor samples, for use with a semi-automated sample processing technology. Learn essential lab techniques and analytical skills at the Digital Biology Center! We specialize in cutting-edge droplet digital PCR technology and are working towards providing customers with genomic assays that are highly sensitive and specific. The summer intern will be exposed to real projects pertaining to the field of diagnostics oncology, and will present an independent project of their own.


    Bio-Rad’s Summer Internship Program offers paid internships to qualified college students. Our program gives students the opportunity to work with an industry leader in Life Science Research and Clinical Diagnostics. Internships are available in a variety of disciplines, providing students the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment, instruments, and facilities.


    • Extract DNA from various sample matrices (FFPE, plasma, fresh-frozen tissue, blood, etc.).
    • Learn the workflow of droplet digital PCR:
    • Formulate and prepare assays and DNA samples.
    • Generate droplets, thermal cycle samples, and read results.
    • Interpret results and draw conclusions on data obtained.
    • Learn about the New Product Development process (NPD) and Design Control.


    • Coursework in molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry recommended.
    • Previous exposure to a laboratory (academia or other) and familiarity with PCR concepts.
    • Must be able to independently handle basic laboratory experiments.
    • Critical thinking and organization skills.
    • Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office).
    • Excellent organizational, record keeping, and communication skills.
    • Enthusiasm for learning, passionate about the clinical sciences, and an interest in working a laboratory setting.
    • Must have completed freshman, sophomore or junior year by June at an accredited college or university, with plans to return to school in the following term.
    • Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale).
    • Be willing to make a full-time commitment of 40 hours a week for 10 weeks from June 10 - August 16, 2019.




    Individuals with temporary visas such as the F-1 or that need sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, will not be eligible for this position.
